About
Eden Valley's altitude gives this Merlot real freshness — far from the heavy, jammy Merlot stereotype. Plum, herbs, fine tannin.
Irvine is one of the larger family-owned growers in the Barossa, farming over 400 acres of vineyard across the Barossa and Eden Valleys. The Altitude range takes its name literally, coming off the higher reaches of Eden Valley, the cooler high country on the Barossa's eastern ridge.
Height matters here. The long, cool ripening season up top is what keeps the variety honest, holding acid and herbal perfume that valley-floor Merlot loses. This is the grape grown where it can keep its shape.
Open it young with midweek food. Roast chicken, a tomato-based pasta, a soft washed-rind cheese. It asks for a table, not a cellar.
