About
Craiglee is one of Australia's most historic Shiraz estates — vines first planted at Sunbury in 1864. Cool-climate, peppery, structured, with real elegance — completely different from Barossa or McLaren styles. The 'Eadie' is named for the founding family. Properly age-worthy Australian Shiraz.
Pat Carmody replanted the old Craiglee vineyard in 1976, fresh out of agricultural college, and made his first vintage in 1978. Nearly fifty years on, he and his wife Dianne still own and run the place themselves.
The Eadie comes from a single paddock on the southern side of Jacksons Creek. Pat and Di grow the fruit, pick it by hand and make the wine on site.
Sunbury's climate keeps this in the peppery, savoury register. Expect dark fruit laced with spice and earth rather than jam, with tannin that asks for food. Open it with slow-roasted lamb or game, and give it time in a decanter first.
Producer note
Craiglee dates to 1864 in Sunbury, just north-west of Melbourne — one of Australia's oldest continuously-operating Shiraz vineyards.
