Dandelion Vineyards is winemaker Elena Brooks and her husband Zar. Elena grew up around wineries in Bulgaria, where her mother worked for a local producer, and made wine across the world before settling in McLaren Vale.
The Lioness comes from a single vineyard at Bakers Gully, grown by Angus and Helen Tuck. It matures in French oak barriques, which rounds the wine out without burying the fruit.
Plum and blackberry lead the palate, with a mocha note running underneath. Pour it at a barbecue and it will hold its own next to steak, sausages or a burger. It drinks well the day you buy it. No cellar patience needed, no decanting ceremony either.
