Domaine Tourbillon 'Plan De Dieu' 2023

Plan de Dieu is a sub-appellation of Côtes du Rhône Villages — proper southern Rhône GSM. Dark fruit, herbs, spice.

Benjamin Tourbillon set up his domaine in 2011 at Lagnes, near L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The family story starts with his grandfather, who farmed five hectares in Gigondas. Benjamin grew that base into holdings across Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Plan de Dieu and the wider Côtes du Rhône. His brother Alexandre became co-owner in 2018.

Plan de Dieu itself is a flat, open plateau of red clay strewn with rounded pebbles. Old Grenache vines carry this cuvée, with Syrah in support. The site gives wines with both depth and lift.

Open it beside lamb chops or a barbecue. No decanting required, just a big glass and hungry people.
