About
Concentrated, structured, age-worthy. The serious end of the Tasmanian Pinot category.
Petrichor is the word for the smell of rain hitting dry earth. Kate Akmentins and Tim Hodgkinson chose it for the vineyard they planted at Tea Tree in the Coal River Valley, about 25 minutes from Hobart. They left Sydney for Tasmania in 2014 and bought the 10-hectare property three years later.
They farm biodynamically and planted their Pinot at a density rarely seen in Australia, one metre by one metre. The first fruit off the home block arrived in 2023. Before that they made wine from chosen parcels grown by neighbouring Tea Tree vineyards.
This is a bottle for roast duck on a cold night, or for the bottom of the cupboard. It will reward whichever patience you can manage.
