Cantina Tollo makes Rocca Ventosa in the village of Tollo, near Abruzzo's Adriatic coast. The winery began in 1960, when twenty local growers formed a cooperative to press their own fruit. It has since grown into one of the region's best-known names, and this bottling carries the Terre di Chieti IGP.
The vineyards sit between the sea and the Maiella massif. Sea breezes and cool mountain air slow the ripening, which holds the grapes' natural acidity. Expect green apple and pear over a clean, gently floral nose.
Chill it hard and pour it as the first glass of the evening. It suits salads, fried snacks and takeaway fish. Open it on a Tuesday without a second thought.
