Yangarra 'Old Vine' Grenache 2022

Yangarra is a benchmark biodynamic producer. Concentrated, savoury, properly structured.

The fruit comes from a single stand of bush vines planted in 1946 at Blewitt Springs, on deep ancient sand. The vines grow without irrigation, and the whole property is certified organic and biodynamic. That sandy ground is why the wine leads with perfume and bright red fruit rather than jam.

In the winery the touch stays light. Wild yeast starts the ferment, and about half the berries go in whole. The wine then ages in old oak, ceramic eggs and amphora, so no new-oak flavour gets in the way. What you taste is the vineyard: red cherry, spice and a fine grip of tannin.

Open it with slow-roasted lamb or a midweek roast. A short spell in a decanter helps it unwind.
