About
Rose, tar, dried cherry, tobacco. Firm tannin and savoury length, built in the traditional Barolo mould. The wine for slow-cooked beef, brasato, aged cheese.
Bricco San Pietro is one of the largest Barolo crus in Monforte d'Alba, second only to Bussia. Anna Maria Abbona's small plot sits in the highest part of the vineyard, facing south-southeast, on Diano sandstone, tuff and limestone marl.
Anna Maria Abbona saved her family's vineyards in 1989, when her father was ready to sell after lean years. She took over instead. The winery is based in Dogliani, where the family built its name on Dolcetto. Barolo, Langhe Nebbiolo and Alta Langa sparkling joined the range as the estate grew.
2017 was a warm, low-rainfall vintage, so this is already showing well but has room to keep developing. Decant an hour ahead.
