About
More fruit and personality than the Provençal pack. Strawberry, cherry, citrus with lively acid. Garnacha-led Rioja rosado — perfect for tapas night.
The fruit grows high. Exopto picks its rosado from plots at Ábalos and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, more than 500 metres up in Rioja's north. One of them, Los Pozos in San Vicente, is a block of vines around 50 years old on chalky soil. Altitude and chalk are what hold the acid line through a hot Spanish summer.
Tempranillo joins the Garnacha in the blend and brings the structure. The juice ferments in tank on wild yeasts, then rests on its lees in large old foudres for up to six months. That lees time builds a quiet grip most pink wine never gets.
Serve it cold and drink it young. Grilled chicken and salads suit it as well as the tapas do.
Producer note
Bodegas Exopto is a small, modern Rioja producer (Tom Puyaubert) known for fresh, unconventional wines that don't follow the heavy-oaked Rioja stereotype.
