About
Six years in bottle has done its work — citrus has evolved into toast, honey, lanolin. Layered palate, long dry finish. This is what aged Hunter Sémillon is supposed to taste like.
Brothers Rhys and Garth Eather run Meerea Park at Pokolbin, and the label remembers Alexander Munro, their great-great-grandfather. The 2018 came off old Sémillon vines on the Braemore vineyard along Hermitage Road.
The winemaking follows the classic Hunter recipe. Whole bunches go straight to the press, the juice ferments in stainless steel, and the wine never touches oak. It goes to bottle early under screwcap, then time in glass does the rest. The 2018 season was dry and even, with small crops that gave concentrated fruit and kept the acid line intact.
Pour it with roast chicken, grilled flathead or a proper aged cheddar. If your cupboard stays cool, the wine has more years left in it yet.
Producer note
Meerea Park is a benchmark Hunter producer; the Alexander Munro is their flagship Sémillon.
