About
Cairanne (a southern Rhône cru) GSM blend. Concentrated, structured, distinctly Rhône.
Brothers Frédéric and François Alary run Oratoire St Martin, the tenth generation of their family to farm vines around Cairanne. The estate is certified biodynamic, and the brothers still plough some plots by horse. They moved early on low sulphur, and their work helped lift Cairanne to cru status in 2016.
The name is a nickname. Around the village the two were known as "les p'tits gars", the little lads. The blend leans on mature-vine Grenache and Syrah, backed by old southern Rhône varieties like Mourvèdre, Counoise and Cinsault.
Open it with slow-cooked lamb, a beef stew or a wedge of hard cheese. It drinks well now and will hold for a few years in a cool cupboard.
