About
Grampians is one of Victoria's most respected Shiraz regions — cool, structured, peppery.
Seppelt makes St Peters from Grampians fruit around Great Western and treats it as the flagship of the house. The line reaches back to 1964, when it was first made as Great Western Hermitage. Since 1998 it has carried the St Peters name, after the first vineyard planted in the district.
The 2020 shows blackberry and cassis with licorice and woody spice, and smoky oak sitting in behind. The tannin runs fine and sinewy rather than broad, with pepper through the finish. It comes in at 14.5 per cent.
Drink it now beside steak or slow-cooked lamb, or bury it. Langtons classifies the label as Outstanding, and Seppelt says well-kept bottles will cellar for decades.
