About
Nero d'Avola with a touch of old-vine Zibibbo from the Riverland — Italian varieties thriving in one of Australia's warmest, driest regions. Juicy, aromatic, supremely refreshing. Slightly chillable, smashable, no fuss.
The Nero d'Avola grows on ancient sandy limestone around Barmera, out in the Riverland, one of the driest patches of vineyard in the country. Nero d'Avola handles that heat well, needing little water to ripen fully while holding onto its colour.
Brendan and Laura Carter co-ferment the Nero d'Avola with a splash of old-vine Zibibbo, added purely to lift the aromatics. Nothing else goes in beyond a small dose of sulphur at bottling, in the vineyard or the winery.
Give it a light chill rather than a full fridge-cold pour, since the fruit closes up too much if it's too cold. It's built for a full glass alongside pizza or anything off the barbecue.
