About
From a serious Beaujolais producer. Cherry, peppery spice, soft tannin — the way Gamay should taste, not the supermarket Beaujolais Nouveau cliché.
Gamay grows here on sandy, decomposed granite scattered with small stones. The stones soak up heat through the day and release it slowly overnight, which ripens the fruit while protecting its natural freshness.
The Piron family has grown grapes in Beaujolais for fourteen generations from their base in Morgon. Dominique Piron is credited as one of the architects of Morgon's revival. The fruit is picked by hand, sorted, partly destemmed, then given a short semi-carbonic ferment of eight to ten days in cement and stainless steel. Short and gentle is the point: all the colour and perfume of Gamay without hard tannin.
Serve it with a light chill, around 14 degrees. This is the bottle for a charcuterie board, a roast chook, or a Tuesday that needs improving.
Producer note
Domaine Piron is a fourth-generation Beaujolais producer based in Morgon.
