About
Nerello Mascalese from Sicily — fine-boned, mineral, savoury. Often called Italy's Pinot Noir for its lighter weight and elegant complexity. Red cherry, earth, gentle smoke over fine, transparent tannin.
La Bacca is made by Adria Vini, a winemaking venture owned jointly by the Boutinot wine company and Araldica, a large Piedmont co-operative. The fruit comes from a long-term partner grower in western Sicily. That is a long way from Etna, where Nerello Mascalese fetches serious prices, and it keeps this bottle at everyday money.
Winemaking stays simple. The grapes ferment in stainless steel with no oak, so nothing gets between you and the grape.
Treat it the way you would a good village Pinot on a weeknight. Ten minutes in the fridge, then pour it with roast chicken or a mushroom pasta. Drink it young, while the fruit is at full volume.
