About
Jim Barry's premium Shiraz — structured, age-worthy, properly serious.
The name records a land deal. In 1964 Jim Barry, the first qualified winemaker to work in the Clare Valley, bought 70 acres from his neighbour Duncan McRae Wood. He planted his first Shiraz vines on that ground.
The wine came a generation later. After The Armagh took off in the late 1980s, the family refused to stretch it to meet demand. Instead, in 1992, they made a new wine from the McRae Wood plantings and their best other Clare parcels. It has been the house's second flagship since.
Give it protein and time. A ribeye or slow-roasted lamb shoulder now, with an hour in a decanter, or a decade in the cellar first.
