Citrus, orchard fruit and mineral depth with texture and length. Sourced from old vines (Alte Reben), giving greater intensity. Rheingau Rieslings tend to be broader and more structured than Mosel styles.
Weingut Künstler farms in Hochheim, at the eastern edge of the Rheingau. The vineyards here overlook the Main river rather than the Rhine. The Stielweg site carries some of the estate's oldest vines, planted more than fifty years ago in deep loess, loam and clay.
That loamy ground shapes the wine. It rounds out the acidity and adds a spicy, floral lift over the fruit. The site holds Erste Lage rank, the first-class vineyard tier in Germany's VDP system, and the wine is fermented fully dry.
Roast pork is the classic partner, and a good roast chook works just as well. Drink it now for the fruit, or cellar it. Künstler's old-vine Rieslings have the structure to repay patience.
